Spicer-Hughes Marina & Motel offers a comprehensive range of amenities for both anglers and travelers, including the sale of live and frozen shrimp, tackle, fuel (on water,) and a convenient cleaning station. With two public launches available for a fee, visitors can easily access the water. The onsite tackle store not only provides essential gear but also offers a selection of drinks, snacks, and licenses, complemented by clean restrooms, seven motel rooms, three lodges, and excellent guide services for a memorable stay.

Hog Island Gully Recreation Area

Fishing and crabbing permitted year round. Cast netting allowed seasonally. Non-motorized watercraft may be hand launched into Impoundments 1A and 1B from this site for recreational paddling in freshwater marsh. Prairie NWR – Pintail Drive and Boardwalk

Three mile driving loop through moist soil wetlands managed by the US Fish & Wildlife Service to provide feeding/resting habitat for wintering waterfowl. Excellent viewing of a variety of wildlife (lots of alligators!) as well as migratory birds year round. Huge waterfowl populations for viewing and photography opportunities in the fall and winter. There is a also a half mile accessible boardwalk with viewing scopes.
Sabine National Wildlife Refuge

Sabine is comprised of 125,000 acres of protected marshland, 61 miles of levees and eight major water-control structures and is the largest coastal marsh refuge on the Gulf of Mexico. Located 8 miles south of Hackberry on LA 27, Sabine NWR is great for birding, wildlife observation, fishing, crabbing and shrimping.
